We scripted and produced a fast-paced 10-minute animated docu-film that laid out Putin’s long-term plan to destabilise Ukraine, and explains why it matters for everyone. Visually bold and narratively sharp, the animation avoided violent imagery while keeping emotional stakes high. Distributed in seven languages across six countries, the campaign was supported by digital marketing across multiple platforms.
Change
As Russia’s war in Ukraine continues, the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR) set out to combat growing public fatigue and rising disinformation. Their goal was to remind international audiences, particularly in Europe, why continued support for Ukraine matters. They approached us to create a film that could cut through apathy and misinformation, and deliver a clear, compelling message: this war was started by Putin, the roots go back decades, and the consequences of disengagement are high.
Makers
We built a specialist production team led by our Managing Director, who has extensive experience in countering hostile disinformation. Writers, motion designers and voiceover artists collaborated across languages and borders, ensuring the final product felt both globally relevant and locally resonant. In each country, we worked closely with trusted civil society partners to guide language choices, tone and cultural nuance, ensuring messaging was appropriate and effective across diverse audiences.
Impact
The film reached over 9 million people and generated 3 million engagements, including 2 million full views. It significantly outperformed platform benchmarks, indicating strong relevance and cut-through. The film successfully reached audiences beyond the already-converted, challenging entrenched narratives and engaging those most exposed to disinformation.
“MakerChange’s collaborative approach, especially their work with localised teams on the ground, brought an unmatched depth of understanding and authenticity to our ongoing projects. By partnering with professionals who truly understood the subject matter and local context, they delivered consistent, high-quality film content that resonated deeply with our diverse audiences. The final deliverables exceeded our expectations, driving significant engagement and earning praise from key stakeholders. They are a trusted partner for complex, multi-location projects and I highly recommend them.”
